L.I.I.A.R Analysis of Clash Magzine

Language
The Front Cover
The masthead is not memorable because of it blending too much with the main image of the main image of Jay-Z. It is also white and doesn’t have anything interesting on it to make it stand out such as a bold outline of a bright colour. The house style is dim as it all seems to blend in with the background so it does not stand out. The main image is great as it has Jay-Z as it is large and he is looking straight to the audience which will grab their attention and the expression of his face goes well with the main coverlines because it says ‘Jay-Z reveals all’ so there could be serious topics discussed inside, which then makes the audience think about what is being told. The masthead is called ‘Clash’ so it makes it memorable because of the fact it is short and it sticks in your head. There is the price and date on the barcode which follows the conventions of a music magazine. There isn’t much information about what is inside such as teasing contents could make it appear to more people. Since there is not a lot information it would only appear to people who are fans of Jay-Z.
Contents Page
The contents page sticks with the house style of white, brown and yellow. The contents page is really simple, plan and boring so people will not be interested in looking any further into the magazine. But there are two main images of the main articles of the magazine which one is of Jay-Z which is going with the front cover.
Institution
There magazine reminds me of NME magazine in the way they have some of their conventions of a magazine, such as mix of different genres of music in one.
Ideology
I do believe there are morals and messages within the magazine but you cannot see it from the front cover. It needs to be made clear to the audience.
Audience
The target audience I think are people ages 13-25 in the demographics category and is for groups are outer and inner directed. This is because the magazine is all about music and the biggest followers of music.
Representation
I think The Clash don't represent the bands/artists included in the magazine as such as the magazine represents the band just how the fans and readers would think of the band.
The magazine is all about the music by artist so for the biggest music followers and lovers. The magazine is set out so then people can see it the way they want too, I think the magazine is set out like this because of the amount of research done.

LIIAR Anaylsis of The Brief

Language
I will make a magazine with the following features:
A masthead this will be short memorable in a large clear font so then the audience will understand what it is called.
The main image will be a medium close up this will take up the full front cover with the eyes of the artist being in contact with the target audience.
It will have a clear colour scheme and run throughout the magazine.
There will be the use of anchor articles as well as the main one for the double page spread.
Barcode which will include the price, date and issue of magazine.
Also a skyline and teasing contents to include features of what else will be inside the magazine.

Institution
As my magazine is to do with Hip Hop and R’n’B it will fill a gap in the market as there isn’t a magazine that specialises in this genre so people who are fan of it will be able to read this new magazine.

Ideology
The magazine will be put across that music is important and that you can’t live without it and that it can have a positive impact on people’s lives every day. There will be morals in the sense that there will be an interview with the message of achievement, you can succeed as long as you believe.

Audience
It is really aimed at music lovers of my genre of magazine so then they feel like they are part of the crowd. The younger generation as well as people who are fans of the artists included.

Representation
The artists that will feature in my magazine will be represented as passionate and wanting to change the way people think through music. The interview will be positive with an inspirational message across with it. It will be suitable for everybody so there will be no type of person left out. Demographics will be from around 13-29 as it will include artist from the old to the new.

Audience Feedback

Evaluation of College Magazine

Language

For my college magazine I used a medium close up shot of a pupil looking at a laptop working hard. This gave the impression that learning can be fun also she is smiling which also puts across this message.

I used some headlines for what else would be featured in the magazine; this would give people a glimpse of what else is in store inside the magazine. The headlines are short so then it gives the message across of what is in it and can stick in their heads as well as getting the audience to think about what it will say about that headline.
On the contents page I have used thumbnail images of what is inside the magazine, in the images they are looking at the audience and makes it eye catching and makes them think that they are looking at them. To ensure that people knew where to find the different articles there are page numbers next to the articles as well as on the images. To ensure that people understood what was on the page the text was put to a reasonable size and was clear so then it was easy to understand.

Institution
The point of this magazine was to highlight Wyke Sixth Form College in a bright light. I chose Wyke Sixth Form College as it was the easiest one to do as I already attend there and I could take pictures of the college and students.

Ideology
The message that I am trying to put across is that learning is fun and you can achieve if you believe. It gives an insight of what students need to know now and for the future, so the message I want to portray is that they are right to do whatever they want to do. That learning in higher education creates less of a bullying surrounding.

Audience
The target audience is for students aged 16-19 studying at Wyke Sixth Form College, I have used an image of a student studying at Wyke to attract their attention.
My target S.E.G group is group E because students are low in income and financial. The psychographics of the target audience are achievers as they are trying to achieve A-levels to go further in life.

Representation
As it is clear that my magazine is to do with college it is about representing student’s college life.
The images used are positive as they are smiling and having fun, the message I wanted to put forward was that this is the time where you learn new things as well as having fun. That is why there is the use of bright colours as it represents youth and fun and gives the front cover the feeling of full of life. It also talks about student life issues that they will be going through such as financial problems and ways to tackle them, so helping them with advice will help to give them a more fulfilled experience at college.

Promoting the Magazine

I would promote my college magazine online. If it was to be promoted online I would do it via the Wyke website and also adding its own link to the website so then it will have its own information about the magazine. This can include sneak peeks into looking what is in the next magazine or even having a look at what issues you have missed. Adding feature such as interesting issues and pictures can make it appeal more to the audience.
For the college magazine if it was printed I would include some fun features such as competitions this would also make the magazine different as it will also have things not relating to college. It could be seen by people wanting to join Wyke it will make them want to join the college even more.
