East Riding Magazine
I will be analysing about will be East Riding College magazine. The magazine front cover has got a consistent house style which is black and white this is very simple and not very appealing. This is because they are meant to be producing this magazine for a target audience of 16 year old students. The target audience will be looking for something more appealing and colourful but still sticking to a house style of two to three colours.
The magazine cover looks amateur and unprofessional looking this could be down to how much money they get to produce the magazine. The masthead on the cover does not stand out as it isn’t colourful or imaginative. It is not eye-catching to the target audience who are going to take this and read. Although there are these faults the positive thing is that the masthead font is the same as the font of the captions etc.
The main image for the magazine is of Media students in Berlin. Although this is to do with college life it is not very effective. It does not put through a message of what about the subject itself is about although it does have a caption saying what it is. This is not a medium close up (from the waist up). This image in not very appropriate for the target audience as it is very dull and you are unable to see any positive aspects in the image. It would look more attractive if they used an image with students smiling and having fun on the trip and having eye contact with the audience would appeal to more people.
There isn’t a bar code on the front cover this shows that it is not a type of magazine you would find in any big retail shops. The presentation is not professional looking and it is free. This looks like a kind of magazine which has been used as a draft as part of coursework not for the students on campus to look and read at.
I am now writing about the ideology, the main image of the magazine is plain and boring which gives us the thought that the trip to Berlin was not interesting. But on the other the hand it shows that there is something interesting being done within the Media subjects.
The target audience for the magazine are the college students of East Riding these are students are from the ages of 16 and above. The logo on the bottom left corner tells us so which has got the name of the college name going through the logo. We also know that it is aimed at this target audience as the name of the magazine itself is called “Student Life”. There are also students from a media class in the main image which shows their participation.
The Grimsby Institute Magazine
I am going to be writing about the GX magazine. This magazine is for the students of The Grimsby Institute. The magazine has got a constant house style of four colours which are blue, grey and white. This is a complete contrast to the East Riding College Magazine. This is because it appeals to the target audience of 16 years and above. The colour scheme brings out a fresh, new and a good sense of hype to the people who look at it. The colour scheme also represents youth which is fun and exciting.
The masthead is big and bold which automatically lets the audience know who it is by and what the title of it is called. They have followed the house style so then everything looks in place and tidy. It is at the top this will make everyone look towards that corner.
The magazine cover looks professional and high quality standard this could be because they have a higher budget for this magazine to be produced. The front cover is eye-catching because of the colour that have been used this automatically makes people turn heads to want them to read what I inside of the magazine. The text is clear to read as the colours do not clash go well together.
The main image on the front cover of the Grimsby magazine is of a male and female student like models animated but cleverly done so they are also within the colour theme. They have not used a medium close up shot but this is still more enticing than the East Riding magazine. As the reason for this is that the images are more attention grabbing and suit the target audience.
Like the East Riding magazine this does not have a barcode on the front cover. They have even forgotten to write down the price so this would not be suitable as the person who will want to purchase the item will not be able to do so.
Ideology for the magazine cover. The images bring out the fun and exciting side of college as this is the meaning of college. This could represent parties and events run by college. They have also used slang such as “the word on the street” this is stereotypical as they believe all the younger generation use this form of speech.
Representation of the college is mixed they use slang which could mean that they are not very education and can make them seem lazy. They also use things such as “booze” and “drugs”. These are stereotypical things which society link with the youth of the ages of 16. This could be misunderstood so people have to read the inside before understanding what it means. This is a common tactic that a lot of people in the media use now-a-days. But this is something they should not use for a college magazine.

Price and Publishing
The price for the magazine will be £1 this so then it is affordable to my target audience. This is a time to where students have to spend wisely as they have to save up for going to university and cars etc. This is reasonable and the money that they will spend on the magazine will be used to the making process of the magazine. I will be publishing a new issue every term this will make buying the product a lot more affordable rather than buying it every week as some students will not be able to do that. There will be special edition magazine given throughout the year as well whenever some exciting or new news that we think is relevant to the audience will be given out.

Target Audience
The target audience will be for 15-24 because this is range of ages that people go to college. I am going to be targeting D and E on the National Readership Surveys social grade. These are aimed at the unemployed/ full time education students and semi-skilled and casual labourers. People who usually go to college are in full time education and are unemployed. Even some people don’t have any qualification at GCSE level therefore can’t get a job so their action is to sit these exams.
